Argentina doubles in size?

This morning I was listening to a podcast on the Economist Radio were they discussed Argentina recently doubling in size and “setting a precedent with big diplomatic and resource-extraction implications”.

Argentina is not even in the list of challenging or partially recognized countries, the ones Google Maps won’t draw borders around. You can read more on the Economist. That is actually not something new, as reported by Geographical a few years ago.

It illustrates the effect of a law Mr Fernández signed in August, which expands Argentina by 1.7m square km (650,000 square miles), an area three times the size of metropolitan France.

It is as well interesting to see how Google maps shows the Falkland Islands with the Argentinian name too. A few more comments on the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) name on this old thread on Reddit
